Dewoh Blog

The Update

Hi everyone! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all that stuff we missed between this post and the previous. I do have to say that if I had to choose one post to be the most recent post on the blog for months, it would have be that video of Katrina being disappointed. There’s that at least.

Anyways, down to business.

LIFE is not dead. It’s alive and – kinda sick. I will take the blame. It’s not because I’ve been too busy, it’s because I’m just not “feeling it.” We’ve actually recorded episodes like we’re supposed to, I just don’t put them up. I personally feel like they aren’t very good. They are not funny, they’re rambling, and they’re kinda boring. I don’t want you guys to hear anything like that. I’d rather give you guys nothing, than horrible content. If you disagree, I’d love to hear about it, (seth@dewoh.com) but I doubt you will.

With all that said, LIFE will be back. I don’t know when, and I don’t know how it’s format will change (if it even does), but it’ll be back.

Dewoh is my hobby, and I love it. It’s never going away again.

Looking forward now: Oh, wait… I’ll talk about that stuff in the next post.

Just know that we’ve got a surprise for you soon.

The “Twilight Effect”

Like most companies now-a-days we have some Google AdWords running. If you don’t know what those are, they are those text ads that you see next to your Google searches. We currently have two ads running, one for LIFE and one for Dewoh in general and depending on what you search for, you may see one show up. The only difference between the two ads is that the Dewoh ad has a few more keywords – one of which includes “Twilight.”

This makes sense because Beautiful Monsters, which I’m sure you know, was at one time the most popular Twilight podcast. The only issue here is that it isn’t really relavant anymore – but that one keyword drives 80% of the clicks on the ad. Out of the hundreds of thousands of impressions the ad gets, the Twilight people love to click it.

So, I guess what I’m saying is this:

  1. Hello Twilight fans. I’m sorry we don’t have new content for you. If you want to make some, you should submit a show.
  2. If you want people to click on your AdWords ad, then add the “Twilight” keyword.
And to answer your questions:
  1. No. I’m not complaining. I love the traffic that “Twilight” is driving, even if most people leave once they see my singing face.
  2. Yes. I do feel less manly knowing that I still basically fund Dewoh through Twilight.
  3. Yes. I did use the word Twilight as much as possible in this post in hope that it’d drive more traffic.
Happy weekend!

LIFE: Bonus Show #002

Happy Friday! The latest LIFE bonus show is up online and we just had a grand time talking about random (or randumb) things for an hour. Those things included talking to Matthew, Katrina’s love of cows, Kris inventing apparel (the short-sweatpant hybrid) and Seth being mentally incapable of playing the sound clips properly.

The best thing was when Katrina called Seth on the air to see her Futurama head, and now, you can see it too.

Of course, where would the fun be without the rest of Dewoh?

Kris, looking angry

Colby

And the best (and most accurate) for last…

Matthew

If you wanna hear what this is all about, just download the episode for $1.99.

Have a great weekend everybody!

New episode of Seth and Colby now available

It’s such a privilege (really) to do a show with Colby. Even if we do only one a year, it’s probably my favorite show I’ll do that year. Colby dropped by and we did such a great show that it felt like we had never even taken a break. One day I’m gonna convince this man to move up here so we can do this all the time, and then I’ll be a happy person. Until then, this will do. Two hours of everything people love about our show and if you haven’t heard it yet, take a listen. If you truly love it, buy the HD and commercial free version for only two bucks.

Surprise!

For those of you who follow us on Twitter, you may have seen us teasing yesterday about an upcoming surprise for you. We posted some cryptic tweets, and then posted a picture of none other than the world-famous Colby Newman.

Colby swang by our Manhattan studios yesterday and sat down with Seth to do a brand new Seth and Colby show. Afterwards, because he’s so awesome. He guest starred on an epiosde of LIFE!

Both epiosdes are going to be released this week. LIFE will be released tomorrow (as usual) and Seth and Colby’s new episode will be out on Thursday.

It’s just our way of saying thanks for making Dewoh’s launch so successful!

Launch day stats – a.k.a. THANK YOU

07-30-2011 Stats

Yesterday's traffic numbers from Google Analytics

Thank you guys so much for making our first day so successful! These numbers blew me away, and I’m so grateful for this. Another big thank you to everyone who emailed me with compliments and congrats – that was much appreciated – and an even bigger thank you to the people who emailed LIFE with your comments. We’ll read those on Wednesday’s show.

If you guys wanna send your own comments my way, please do so! Email me at seth@dewoh.com or if you want to email LIFE then that address is life@dewoh.com.

If you purchased a shirt or hoodie yesterday, first let me say I LOVE YOU, and secondly, once it arrives, send us a photo of yourself wearing it! I’d love to put it up on the blog! Who knows, if I get enough, perhaps I’ll have a contest involving them.

As a way to say thank you, we’ve got some super big, and super surprising plans for you – really, really soon.

Stay tuned, and thanks again!

Dewoh.com throughout the ages

I went through many website mock-ups and revisions to get to this new-fangled site and as time went on it got harder and harder to do so because we kept adding more content that had to be organized. So when I set out to design and program this new Dewoh site, I wanted something modern (I used to code with tables, now I would beat myself up for being so lame) but at the same time I didn’t want to forget where it came from. To do this, I went back and looked at some previous versions.

This is the first website mock-up I could find.

As you can tell, we’ve come a long way. You can see that I didn’t have a logo yet (just that horrible Arial Rounded font) and I definitely
had the green thing down. You can also see the tabs making their first appearance. Can I just say YUCK!

Version 1.0 of Dewoh.com

This is what the home page looked like when we launched. I learned how to make super fat logos, to put the navigation and on the wrong side, and how to make a gradient. Yay, me!

Dewoh.com when we went on hiatus in 2008.

This is what we looked like when we pulled the plug for the first time. We had added fancy forums and an iPhone version, but the navigation was still horrible. That top-hat-Dewoh-logo-man that Colby whipped up is probably the greatest thing ever, though.

First "Dewoh 2.0" mock-up

When I first started coding a new Dewoh, I started in a crazy-different direction. It was really media rich (with a video player right on the front page!) and really limited the green. I like the design idea itself… but it just wasn’t right for Dewoh. For one thing, we didn’t have enough video to actually make that player interesting, and I wanted to focus on shows individually more than I wanted to focus on the network as a whole.

Dewoh.com right before re-launch

Which brings us to the new site. I think it’s a great blend of Dewoh’s legacy and where we want to go. I’m sure I missed some things and made some typos on these 700+ plus pages that I wrote by hand, so if you find any send me a nice little note so I can get it fixed.

I have tons of plans for the site to enhance it and improve it. I’ll be rolling those out over time. The site will be forever improving, and I hope you guys will tell me if you see anything that should be fixed or should be improved.

I’m so excited to finally re-launch. I really hope you guys love all the new content and that you keep coming back for everything new that we add. You’ve probably noticed that some pages are coming soon. I didn’t want to put up anything that was not better than it was originally, so I just left some stuff off. I’ll talk more about that later.

Thanks for sticking around!

Lukas tries to promote Where It’s At! – and fails.

When we first luanched in July of 2007 we wanted to make a video with all of the hosts explaining and introducing their shows. Obviously, this didn’t happen – Luaks was the reason. Watch this previously-unseen video of Lukas’s inability to read.
